Lenten thoughts

Today is the first Sunday in Lent, which has got me thinking about me and what I do with my time and my life. A little serious perhaps but sometimes one has to share serious thoughts. I guess what I'm getting at is that sometimes I feel like my life is a little vacuous and that I should be doing more to give back what I have been given.

And lent seems an appropriate time to really give it some thought. I have been thinking about doing some volunteer work, my middle sister did it and I was always impressed at how willing she was to go and dig some part of London or to clear up a cemetary somewhere. This would involve me making time to do this, I have always given myself an excuse of being busy, but then so are most people.

And then I got to thinking about blogging and giving. How through blogging I have found support networks and friendships and a world of advice, fun and wonderfulness. So how can I give back to blogging? So for the next few weeks I shall try to give back. Perhaps by listing some of my favourite blogs, perhaps by at long last trying to do a giveaway or perhaps just by making a real effort to support other bloggers through comments, if only because I know how getting comments really cheers me on to keep on writing. Any suggestions you have for this would be very much appreciated, any ideas for how I could support you or any other thoughts write away!

Ah what a nice idea. I do think the community spirit of blogging is to be commended!

You might be interested to read this site: http://www.29gifts.org/ The idea is to challenge yourself to give something every day for 29 days, whether it's a smile, a compliment, a cake, some coins, an old jumper, your time, whatever...
I think I might do it too if you want to compare notes?...

Oooh, I like that 29 Gifts idea. It's simple but I've often noticed that the smaller things make the biggest difference.

One thing I like to do is send people handwritten cards for no real reason (people are amazed... email has really killed cards, I guess).

I supposed the web version would be sending an email to posting comments on your favorite blogs with astounding frequency? My blog always feels happier with comments.

One last thing (see, this is why I rarely comment on blogs--too much to say!). I make jewelry and would be happy to donate anything on my site if you do decide to do a giveaway.

@MDS - more commended sometimes, we do our best to drum up support but sometimes I think bloggers forget to blow their own trumpet.

@LK - I would love to do this, brilliant idea. Starting tomorrow I shall do 29 gifts

@MischeifbyLoki - Firstly, hello and welcome! I love the handwritten cards idea, and glad you too think 29 gifts is a good idea. So I shall try and start tomorrow. Plus I would love to run a giveaway with an item from your site. I shall be in touch!

This is a lovely idea, and has got me thinking. Much better than just giving up chocolate at any rate. Good luck with your 29 days challenge, and thanks for giving me food for thought!
